BLAKE MAY
Dallas Texas
“Yea they call me hot show, I’m the busiest…pull up in a Bronco, it’s the sleaziest pull up in a Lexus, you know it’s alright…its V-8 and it’s going to skate…
When he’s not ripping off yardage as a running back for the RiverHawks, Blake May is all smiles while laying down musical tracks in a studio.
“Making music allows me chance to get away from everyday pressures, a chance to just be myself,” said the Dallas TX native, a senior running back for the Northeastern State University football team.
May’s journey to get to NSU started at the age of four when he first began playing football. After a stellar career as a wingback at Frisco High School in the DFW metroplex, his college career began at Southern Arkansas University before May took a chance for a better opportunity to come to Tahlequah.
“After two years at SAU, I was looking for a new home and that’s when, through the portal, NSU offered me a new beginning and I’ve been happy every day since,” said May. “At the end of the day, it was a leap of faith forcing me to trust myself and my coaches in making the move. It’s paid big dividends in the end for sure.”
While becoming the primary running back last year, May, who also has battled injuries just to remain in the game, is expected to be a game changer for the RiverHawks in 2024.
“No matter what happens, you’ve got to have tunnel vision when it comes to obtaining your goal. You’re here for a reason and your opportunity is still in front of you,” said May who continues his pursuit of a degree in Exercise Science.
Described as being compassionate and friendly, May strives to be a leader on an off the field. And just like the football move has been a victory, so have been the educational opportunities for the RiverHawks’ running back that will wear jersey number-8 this fall.
“I’ve had some of the coolest professors that have helped me with more than just making the grade; they’ve helped me with real life stuff,” said May. At NSU, you’ll have professors that will guide you to make the right choices. They not only make classes so interesting, they also will engage you.”
Heading into his senior season, it’s a game clock, that according to May, offers an opportunity to win the big game.
“At NSU, the academic environment offers a variety of options including online as well as in person and hybrid class schedules in order that I can complete my degree and still meet the demands of my everyday schedule.”
And simultaneously, it includes Blake May the freedom to lay down tracks to the end zone for touchdowns and enjoy life to beat the of his own style of music.
