“RIVERHAWK NATION” – Stilwell’s Macie Sawney – NSU RiverHawks Softball – Presented by Northeastern State University

MACIE SAWNEY

“There’s one thing that always comes first – Family!”

Many have often spoken these words but for Macie Sawney, it’s an everyday thing.

“Family is one of the main reasons I chose to come to NSU to play softball,” said the RiverHawks senior centerfielder following a two-year stint at Crowder College. “The relationships with my teammates are special. There’s an open minded environment and an optimistic spirit fueled by grit.”

A 2021 graduate from Stilwell, Sawney likes the fact that she’s 30 minutes away from home and describes her opportunities at Northeastern State University much like that of a family reunion.

“Whenever we play at home, I’ve got my own cheering section in the stands that come from Stilwell just to watch me play.”

Defining herself as competitive, compassionate and eager to take on every challenge, Sawney strives to make the best of her God-given talents by using her speed and field vision to make the hard plays look routine.

“I always strive to put the needs of others first while at the same time to never give up to make sure things go my way, on and off the field.”

Academically, the NSU experience continues to open doors to Sawney’s career plans to become a physician’s assistant thanks to the guidance of her professors.

“I knew the science classes were going to be hard but would prepare me for the challenges after graduation in the real world.” said Sawney describing the arduous task of obtaining her HPER degree. “My instructors have proven they truly care about me in and out of class. The flexibility of scheduling for classroom involvement is a big plus for NSU students including zoom classes and the opportunity to take exams before we go on a road trip for softball.”

As a lover of the outdoors, Sawney enjoys all the extras available at Northeastern State University.

“I enjoy the hikes, riding horses, fishing and hunting that are just moments away from campus,” she said with grin. “But,above everything else, it’s the community of support students receive in all aspects of their college life at NSU. You get a helping hand 24/7 from people in town as well as the instructors. At NSU, it’s just a big family that cares about everyone to help you find success.”
