Sallisaw’s Creed Nelson – Baseball Spotlight – Presented by Cheveux Hair Salon

Some athletes discover their passion later in life, but for Creed Nelson, baseball has always been part of who he is. From the first time he picked up a bat, he knew he had found something special. “I started from a very young age, and as I got older, the love for the game got stronger and led me to where I am today,” Nelson said. Now a senior at Sallisaw High School, he’s using that passion to lead his team and make his final season one to remember.

Nelson credits his father for shaping him into the player he is today. “My dad inspired me to play my sport because he always encouraged me to work hard and never give up. He has been my biggest influence, teaching me the value of dedication and perseverance.” His father’s support has been instrumental in helping him stay focused and determined throughout his baseball career.

Winning games isn’t just about talent—it’s about trust and camaraderie. Nelson believes that his team’s bond gives them a competitive edge. “We have a very strong senior group of guys that lead by example and a talented group of underclassmen. We have great chemistry as a team and work hard and have a lot of fun being around each other.” That connection off the field translates to success on it.

Nelson knows exactly what is expected of him. “I am the starting shortstop and will be in the rotation to pitch. I have prepared this offseason by working on my craft and lifting weights.” His dedication to improving his game shows in the way he approaches every practice and competition.

Like any driven athlete, Nelson has set high expectations for himself and his team. “My goal is to lead my team to a state championship.” With hard work and determination, he hopes to make that dream a reality.

Nelson has faced his share of obstacles, including the challenge of adjusting to high school baseball. “My freshman year, I had a hard time adjusting to the speed of the game. I overcame this by having a strong group of seniors that helped me throughout the season.” Their guidance helped him grow into the player he is today.

With graduation approaching, Nelson has a clear vision for his future. “My plans after high school are to attend Oklahoma Wesleyan University to play baseball and get a math or science degree.” Whether on the field or in the classroom, he’s ready to embrace the next chapter.

As he reflects on his journey, Nelson is grateful for those who have supported him along the way. “I would like to thank my parents, coaches, and teammates.” Their encouragement has helped him become the player and leader he is today.
