OUTLOOK

There’s “unfinished business” for the Lady Indians after a second straight Class 2A state runner-up campaign in 2023.  With a roster loaded with experienced talent that includes eight starters, the offseason focus has been “20-20” with only one objective in mind – state champions 2024.

“We lost five games last year by a combined total of eight runs,” said head coach Eddie Combs while discussing the desires of this year’s squad to reach the state tournament for a fifth straight season. “They realize the importance of the little things that make the difference. With the leadership of our four players who are college commits and the offseason efforts of every player on the roster, I’m looking forward to this year.”  VYPE Top 100 pick Allyssa Parker (P/SS, Sr.) tops the list of standouts as the Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year and University of Oklahoma commit returns to the circle as the ace of the staff. “Allyssa is a generational type player that no matter if she’s pitching or playing shortstop is a game changer and she has plenty of pop with the bat in her hand.” Crowder College commit Kylee Merritt (INF/Sr.) along with Eastern Junior College commits Riley Jerrell (INF/Sr.) and Lety Parga (C/Sr.) are three returning starters who have played key roles during the past three season in which Pocola has produced a 108-13 win-loss record including Class 2A state runner-up finishes the past two seasons. Combs can only smile while looking at the remainder of the 2024 roster that also includes a fifth senior, Warren Piper (INF/Sr.) along with six juniors with game time experience in the clutch moments including Kyleigh Combs (P/INF, Jr.), Kaydence Batt (INF, Jr.), Dauslyn Brown (OF, Jr.), Landi Riggs (OF, Jr.), Alli Lomon (P/OF, Jr.), and Elliott Alexander (OF, Jr.). Youth and skills also abound in five underclassmen Adriana Mills (P/OF, So.), Brynlee Noble (OF, So.), Mahiya Masterson (INF, Fr.), Brynlee Taylor (OF, Fr.) and Londyn Carlisle (INF, Fr.).
