LEDGER FOLSOM
Vian Wolverines
Hard work beats talent especially when talent isn’t working…the motivational phrase emphasizes that dedication and effort outperform a person’s abilities if that talent is not cultivated. For Vian’s Ledger Folsom, it’s a lifelong performance effort.
“Natural ability is just a starting point. To be your best requires a daily commitment to hard work, harder than everyone else in order to be better today than yesterday. It’s how I try to approach everything I do no matter the sport or situation.”
During his final year in high school, Folsom moved from Eufaula to Vian and welcomed the challenge of winning the game and finding his place in a new locker room.
“I had to earn my part in the Wolverine family. I knew that I had to gain their trust. My approach was to just be me and let my actions do the work,” said Folsom. “In football, I switched positions from quarterback to wide receiver which allowed me to maximize my individual potential as well as dedicate myself to helping our team win.”
For his talents on the gridiron, Folsom earned the opportunity to compete at the collegiate level on scholarship at Southwestern College in Kansas.
“From the start, it’s felt just like home, the coaches at Southwestern really cared about me as a person as well as an athlete.”
As the spring sports season begin, Folsom is eager to display his talent in track competing in the 100 and 200 meter sprints and joining Isaiah Owens, Carter Madsen and Dee Antwine to race for gold in the 4×100 meter relay, an event where Folsom has competed in the state track meet the last two years.
“I love running track simply because it’s up to me to be my best every time I step in the starting blocks.”
When asked to define himself in three words, Folsom wanted to add another value to his daily life.
“I can be goofy at times,” Folsom said with a chuckle, “but seriously, I’m independent, competitive for sure and hard working. I have a love of the game and a burning desire to put in whatever time and effort is needed to be the best I can be.”
Still yet, Folsom maintains his foundation of success anchored through a family spirit.
“By example, my dad and mom (Rodney & Kim) have shown me and my brother Luke the importance of hard work in order to not just attain your goal but continue to raise the bar to a higher level today and then do it again tomorrow.”
And as he looks at the finish line on the track as well as high school graduation, Ledger Folsom is ready to sprint to the finish line without regrets or an excuse and check the clock for the results of his race confident of a winning effort.
