For freshman Brayshon Hollis, football isn’t just about playing the game—it’s about making a statement. “My personal goals this season is to be great and shock the world,” Hollis said.
The Pirates’ team chemistry is steadily improving, something Hollis has noticed since summer. “We’re getting better,” he said. “We have got a lot better throughout the summer and the start of the season.”
Hollis has big dreams not only for himself, but for his teammates. “Some of the team goals this year is to win it all; we are trying hard and working hard to do that,” he said. “I think our bigger strength right now is when we stick together.”
On the field, Hollis lines up on both sides of the ball, and his approach is all about strategy. “I play running back and linebacker,” he said. “I like to look for a perfect hole to run through when I’m reading the defense and pick on their weakest linebacker.”
When the ball is snapped, Hollis is always prepared. “I just work hard in everything I do and just be ready for the ball to get handed to me,” he said. “My mindset when I step on the field is run everyone over and no one can stop me.”
Even as a freshman, Hollis is thinking about the mark he wants to leave behind. “When I graduate from Porter, I just want everyone to know how hard I worked and how I gave it my all in everything I did,” he said.
He also understands the doubts some outsiders have about his team, but he embraces it. “That’s why I continue to work hard and hold my teammates accountable so we can shock the world.”
So far, his favorite football moment is one he’ll never forget. “My favorite memory in a Porter jersey is my first high school touchdown,” Hollis said.
Standing at 6’0, Hollis plays football, basketball, baseball, track, and powerlifting, while also competing in trap and skeet. “My plans for after school—I plan to graduate and go to college on a scholarship and play D1 football,” he said.
