Gore High School’s Hallie Brewer – Cheer Spotlight – Presented by Cross

Gore High School’s Hallie Brewer

For Gore sophomore cheerleader Hallie Brewer, the example she looks up to most comes from home. Her mom is the person she calls one of the biggest inspirations in her life, thanks to an unwavering work ethic and constant support. Brewer said her mother “works hard, devotes all her time and effort to me, and is always there for me in rough times.”

Brewer, a sophomore, brings that same dependable presence to the Gore varsity cheer squad, where she serves as a main base and emerging leader. “My job on the cheer squad is being a main base and helping lead as much as I can,” Brewer said. She thrives on the relationships built within the program as much as the Friday night lights.

“Cheering is very fun for me,” Brewer said. “I love being able to have a whole group of girls who are willing to help me in any situation, and them holding me accountable for all of my actions, being around them makes me a better person.” That accountability stretches well beyond the season. The Pirates begin workouts at the end of June, practicing twice a week for two hours before taking a short break in July and ramping back up until school starts.

In the classroom, Brewer’s favorite subject is math, and she points to Coach Randolph as her favorite teacher. Away from school and the sidelines, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, going to church, dancing and reading.

Brewer said athletics has taught her how to work as part of a unit, handle adversity and keep striving to improve. “Being in athletics has taught me many things,” she said, noting the importance of working as a team instead of an individual and learning how to take a loss and grow from it. She also looks up to teammate River, whom she has played with for more than five years, praising her relentless effort and the way she lifts up others.
