UAFS cross country signee really enjoys running
By Buck Ringgold
Running has always been in Molly Carver’s blood.
It’s a skill she has specialized in while attending Roland High School. In the fall, she runs cross country, while in the spring, she competes on the track team, doing both the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs.
Now as a senior, she wants to build off what she was able to do on the track this past spring.
“My favorite event is the one mile,” Carver said. “I love that it’s not too long and also not too short; it’s just right for me.”
In her junior season – her first season on the varsity squad – Carver had a strong finish, getting a personal record while placing sixth in the mile at the state meet while also finishing seventh in the two-mile event.
Her personal best time in the mile is a 5:28, while in the two-mile event, it is 12:08.
“I love all my friends in track and my coaches,” Carver said.
But the senior has done more than just run. She also played on the Lady Rangers’ basketball team, which brought about a bit of irony when it came to the start of the track season.
That’s because Carver didn’t get to compete in her first meet of the year in order to try out for the All-State basketball squad.
“I have not competed in a track meet this year, yet I skipped my first meet to go to basketball All-State tryouts, but practice has been amazing,” she said.
When she’s not involved in sports, Carver loves to go thrift-store shopping with her mother. In the classroom, Carver possesses a 3.2 grade-point average.
As noted previously, Carver also runs cross country. In fact, she plans to continue that as she signed to compete for the cross country squad at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith.
“Cross country has gone good, not as well at track for me, but I did sign with UAFS to run cross country in the fall,” she said.
“I enjoy running track more, but I like the cross country atmosphere better.”
