Howe High School’s Kadynce Delt
Howe senior pitcher Kadynce Delt has learned that the circle demands as much from the mind as it does from the arm. A steady presence for Howe High School’s softball program, Delt has become known for her competitive edge and calm demeanor in big moments.
Delt, a 12th-grader, said her biggest inspiration is close to home. “My mom because she always pushes me to be better,” she said. That standard has been carried over to the field, where Delt embraces the responsibility and pressure that come with being a pitcher. “I am a pitcher and I think the most difficult thing about pitching is the mental part,” she said.
That focus shows up in the batter’s box as well. Delt keeps her approach simple and relaxed when she steps to the plate. “I like to stay relaxed when I am hitting, so I am always singing a song in my head,” she said.
Around campus, Delt lists math as her favorite subject and still remembers her third grade teacher, Mrs. Broom, as a favorite from her early school days. Away from softball, she enjoys watching movies and spending time with friends, a balance that helps her reset between games.
Delt said athletics have taught her lessons that will last long after high school. “Control what you can control,” she said, summing up a mindset that has guided her through the ups and downs of competition.
She also values the personality and chemistry inside the Howe dugout. “There’s never a dull moment,” Delt said. She pointed to teammate Karley Duvall as the most vocal on the team and tabbed Whitlei Hall as the one who keeps everyone laughing. Another teammate, Brilee Scarberry, usually leaves the field with the dirtiest uniform.
Above all, Delt said she appreciates how her teammates support one another. “How they never let you stay in a bad mood,” she said. For Howe’s senior pitcher, that uplifting atmosphere is as important as any pitch she throws.
