ANGELA RUBIO CASTILLO

Muskogee High School Girls Soccer

Angela Rubio Castillo has developed into an important presence for the Muskogee High School girls’ soccer team, bringing steadiness, focus and a team-first mindset to her role at center back.

Angela, a senior defender known to friends as “Camilla” said her love for soccer started at home. She credits her dad as the person who inspired her to begin playing, saying she grew up watching him and quickly developed her own passion for the game.

Now in her fifth year of playing soccer, Rubio Castillo has embraced the responsibility that comes with anchoring the defense while wearing the number-10 jersey for the Lady Roughers. She understands the demands of the position and the concentration it takes to succeed, noting that defensive roles require constant focus and accountability to protect the net.

That mentality has helped shape her approach both on and off the field. Rubio Castillo said soccer has taught her discipline and perseverance, while also helping her learn how to stay focused, manage her time and work as part of a team. She said those lessons are ones she believes will stay with her long after her high school career ends.

Just as important to Angela is the connection she shares with the people around her in the Lady Roughers soccer program. She said one of the things she enjoys most about being part of the team is the bond she has built with her teammates and coaches, adding that their support for one another makes the experience especially meaningful.

Among the players who have influenced her, Rubio Castillo pointed to former teammate Mía González as someone who left a lasting impression describing González as a talented and dedicated player who continues to stand out as an athlete.

Away from soccer, Angela enjoys spending time doing her makeup and getting ready, a glimpse of the personality she carries beyond competition. In the classroom, she said math is her favorite subject, and Timothy Wooddard is her favorite teacher.
