A championship mindset drives Garritt Hunt into his senior season on the mat at Vian. “My personal goal this year is to win state,” Hunt said, setting the tone for everything that follows.
Energy has defined the atmosphere around the program. “A lot of enthusiasm,” Hunt said when describing the vibe within the room, pointing directly to “our team bonding” as a major factor behind that energy. That chemistry has translated into clear objectives. “Our goal is to make it to dual state, and we’ve been working hard to get to there,” he said.
What separates this group starts internally. “Our biggest strength is our mindset,” Hunt said, emphasizing the mental side of wrestling as much as the physical. That mindset carries over into competition, where preparation begins before the whistle. “I look at their body language,” he said, explaining how he reads opponents before engaging.
Physically, his routine is simple and intentional. “Get loose and stay moving,” Hunt said of how he prepares his body for matches that demand constant motion and intensity. Once competition starts, the focus narrows. “Don’t lose,” he said, summing up his approach in just two words.
Legacy matters just as much as wins. “That I never gave up,” Hunt said when asked how he wants to be remembered when his career at Vian comes to an end. He also hopes people recognize what makes this team special. “That we are an enthusiastic team,” he said.
Music plays a role in his pre-match routine as well. “Comfortable Liar — Chevelle,” Hunt said, naming the song that helps him lock in before stepping onto the mat. One moment stands out above the rest. “Winning regionals while my team cheered me on,” he said, calling it his favorite memory in a Vian uniform.
Hunt balances multiple sports while excelling in wrestling. Along with wrestling, he also competes in football and baseball, showcasing his versatility as a student-athlete.
Looking ahead, his plans are already in motion. “My plans after high school is to wrestle in college and get a degree in criminal justice,” Hunt said.
With confidence, resilience, and an unbreakable mindset, Garritt Hunt’s senior season is defined by purpose, perseverance, and a relentless pursuit of the ultimate goal.
