KEYS COUGARS

Coach: JUSTIN BROWN

3-7

OFFENSE

The Cougars have talent returning at the skill positions for the upcoming season as Justin Brown begins his second year as the head coach. Leading the way is two-time VYPE TOP 100 pick Treveon Guthrie (5-7, 165, Sr.) who had 30 catches for 291 yards and four touchdowns along with 25 carries for another 225 yards in offense. “Treveon is a four-year starter for us and is one of the leaders of our team,” said Brown. “He’s been our leading receiver the past two seasons and is also a state placer in track and powerlifting as well.” Returning from injury at quarterback will be Ryder Davis (6-1, 165, So.) who had a great year as a freshman with nearly 1000 yards of offense and nine touchdowns until he was hurt in game six. Brown has a pair of sophomore running backs returning to carry the mail in his pistol offense in Garrett Lemasters (5-7, 160) who was injured in game seven and Raiden Beckwith (5-9, 155) who had just over 300 yards rushing. Replacing a senior heavy line will be a priority during the summer with Ricky Sharrette (6-0, 250, Sr.) and Cooper Sanders (5-10, 240, Jr.) being the two with the most experience.

DEFENSE

There are eight starters returning on the defensive side of the ball for the Cougars led by Guthrie who had 40 tackles and a pair of interceptions at his safety spot last year. Lemasters also returns at linebacker where he recorded 35 tackles, a pair of oskies, and two recovered fumbles and he’ll be joined by Braxton Womack (5-9, 210, Jr.) and Clint Brown (6-1, 210, So.). Benton Martin (6-0, 220, Jr.) will be the stalwart on the defensive line where he recorded 38 tackles and a sack in 2024. Guthrie will be joined in the secondary by Jacob Kirk (5-8, 150, So.) who captured two interceptions last year. “Our guys did a good job of learning the four-down defense last year and I believe we can build on that knowledge to be even better this year. Our goal this year is to make the playoffs and to do that we have to play more consistently. We had too many games where we played good for one half and poorly for the other,” said Brown.
