After a rebuilding season in 2024, Hulbert head coach Dewayne Hammer is focused on growth and cohesion as the Riders prepare for the upcoming year. “We have four returning starters and a new crew of young girls coming in, so I’m hoping we mix well and compete,” said Hammer.
That blend of veteran leadership and youthful energy will be critical for Hulbert to take the next step forward. Leading the charge is senior Sadie Chambers, a four-year starter who brings both experience and production to the field. “Sadie is a four-year starter and was first team all-conference and district player last season,” said Hammer.
Chambers is expected to play a key role on both sides of the ball, bringing consistency and leadership to a lineup that will need steady hands as young players adjust to the pace and competition of varsity softball. With her experience, Hammer knows he has a reliable anchor in the lineup.
Another returning standout is sophomore Gracie Conrad, a player who already made waves as a freshman. “Gracie is a first team all-conference player,” Hammer said. Conrad will be a key component of the team’s future, and her early success has the staff excited about what lies ahead. With her bat and defensive versatility, she gives Hulbert a dynamic option and someone who can spark momentum in tight games.
While Hammer knows that rebuilding and competing in a tough schedule is never easy, he remains optimistic about the group’s potential.
The Riders will rely heavily on internal development, with Hammer pushing his players to elevate their game through effort and attitude. With returning leaders like Chambers and emerging stars like Conrad, Hulbert is aiming to develop a solid foundation for not just this season—but the future of the program.
