Sequoyah Tahlequah Indians – Football Preview – Presented by ICTC

Coach: CHAD HENDRICKS

5-6

OFFENSE

The search for a new quarterback and running back will be top of mind for Indians coach Chad Hendricks and his staff as they enter the 2025 season but there are seven returning players who saw at least some playing time last year. A trio of talented receivers will be the recipients of whoever ends up throwing the ball for Sequoyah. Hudson Hendricks (5-10, 170, Jr.), Aiden Jones (6-0, 165, Jr.) and Shaystin Duncan (5-10, 160, So.) combined for 66 receptions and over 1000 yards of offense last season. . “Shaystin is very athletic and could be a big producer for us this season, “said Hendricks. Lawson Morgan (6-1, 175, Sr.) could provide some depth at that position as well. Coaches are evaluating the skills of four players to become the quarterback including Crayton Sapp (6-3, 190, Jr.) who pitched the Indians to victory last spring in baseball along with the dual threat talents of Hudson Hendicks, Taylon Vaughn (6-2, 160, Sr.) and Cannon Trammell (5-10, 175, So.).The Indians return some experience in the line with big Littlebear Teehee (6-3, 340, Sr.) and Josiah Sapp (6-2, 280, Jr.). Providing some blocking for the run game and making some grabs at tight end will be Jakob Rider (6-0, 180, Jr.) who had eight receptions last year.

DEFENSE

The back end of the Sequoyah defense will present problems for their opponents. The linebacking duo of Rider and Marley Moore (5-9, 210, Jr.) have a combined 350 career tackles with 20 tackles for loss and six forced fumbles. “Marley is probably the hardest working guy on the team,” said Hendricks, “He is a great leader and the players respect and follow him every day. He is the guy that does everything right when nobody is looking.” At the cornerback spots Eli Waterdown (5-10, 160, Jr.) and Lawson Morgan, a VYPE TOP 100 nominee, will be on the job once again. “Lawson came into his own last season, and we look for him to have a successful senior year. He’s also a great student who is involved in multiple school organizations,” said Hendricks. Hudson Hendricks returns at free safety where he’s racked up 180 career tackles and seven interceptions over the years. Another player to watch for will be sophomore Ridge Blackbear who can play running back and linebacker. “He played a little for us last year but with his athleticism he’ll have a chance to be an every down player this year,” said Hendricks who enters his sixth year as the Indians head man. ” Our defense will be high pressure and aggressive to eliminate explosive plays.”
