Roland Rangers – Football Preview – Presented by ICTC

Coach: GREG WISE

1-9

OFFENSE

There’s a new sense of dedication in the air at Roland High School as Greg Wise starts his second year as the head coach. “Our program has struggled the last several years, but we are excited for a fresh start this season, energized by a mix of talented newcomers and returning players who gained valuable experience last year,” said Wise. “Our staff is committed to building a culture rooted in toughness, physicality and discipline both on and off the field.” On offense, the Rangers will base out of split-back and I-formations with a philosophy centered on playing fast, physical, and gritty from the moment the ball is snapped. The quarterbacking duties this season will fall to either Paul Johnson (5-10, 160, Sr.) or Kayden Hart (5-10, 190, Jr.) who can also double at the running back spot while Johnson will likely be at wide receiver if he’s not the QB. Others who might contribute at running back are Alex Brant (6-0, 180, Jr.) and Trevor Tanksleary (5-9, 160, So.). Uriah Phillips (6-1, 175, Jr.) is back to head up the receiving corps while Talen Reese (6-1, 210, Jr.) will anchor the line for the Rangers. “Attention to detail is the foundation of the offense with technique, attitude, and effort designed to maximize efficiency,” said Wise.

DEFENSE

The Rangers will base out of a 3-4 and mix in packages and disguises off that. Johnson and Brant, who led the team in tackles and tackles for loss in 2024, will see double duty at the safety and linebacker spots respectively. In the line look for tough play from Turon Taylor (6-1, 190, So.) and John Allen (6-0, 250, Sr.). Joining Brant at linebacker will be Cason Perryman (6-1, 180, Sr.) and in the secondary at cornerback will be Derek Allen (6-0, 170, Jr.) joining Johnson. “Our players have responded well to our commitment to excellence and our staff is proud of the way this group has bought in and have been working hard in the off season. With a renewed focus and strong leadership, I believe this group is ready to take a big step forward this year,” said Wise.
