KEYS COUGARS
BOYS
Coach: RON DUNAWAY
23-24 Record: 20-6
The Keys Cougars boys basketball team enters the 2024 season under new leadership, with head coach Ron Dunaway taking the helm. After graduating a talented group of seniors, the Cougars will have to adapt to a new system, but they are looking forward to gelling as a team as the season progresses. Coach Dunaway is optimistic about what lies ahead, saying, “With a new coach, the graduation of some talented seniors, and returning two starters, the boys will be learning a new system, but by February, we expect to be a solid squad.”
The Cougars return two key starters from last season’s 20-6 team, including junior guard Joe Green (6-2, Jr.), who has quickly emerged as a top player. Green averaged 10.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 3.5 assists last season. Known for his ability to score from anywhere on the floor and his quickness, Green is expected to be a key player for the Cougars again this season. Ben Kimble (6-0, Sr.) will also be a crucial contributor. A versatile player who excels in both athleticism and leadership, Kimble is expected to be a reliable presence for the Cougars. His work ethic and team-first mentality have made him a valuable asset on and off the court. Nathan Rogers (5-8, Sr.) is another player who will play an essential role, bringing energy and determination to every game. Rogers’ effort and consistency in doing the little things right have earned him a spot as an unsung hero for this year’s squad.
In addition to these key returning players, the Cougars are expecting big things from junior Chase Jones (6-1, Jr.). Despite battling injuries in the past, Jones is an athletic player with the ability to shoot the ball effectively. As he gains more game experience, he is poised to become a major contributor for the team. The Cougars’ bench will also provide solid depth, with players like senior Ben Kimble (6-0, Sr.), and sophomore Daylon Malone (5-10, So.) stepping up to fill important roles.
With a fresh outlook and an experienced core of players, the Keys Cougars are looking to continue their tradition of success and make a deep run into the postseason.
