On the football scene at Stigler High School, one name stands out: Jaxson Cardell. His passion for the game has been a lifelong journey. “I have played football since I can remember, football has always been my favorite sport and one of my favorite things.” This early start has shaped him into a versatile and dedicated player.
Jaxson’s inspiration stems from his family and football idols. “My dad inspired me to play football, he played growing up,so he introduced me to the sport,” he said. His biggest influence, however, comes from a professional player. “My biggest influence has been Baker Mayfield. Growing up an OU fan, this was pretty natural. I just love his love for the sport and how he plays.”
Team chemistry is a crucial element for success, and Jaxson is optimistic about the upcoming season. “This year, we have very good chemistry. We have seven returning starters, so we already know what it’s like to play together.” His role on the team is multifaceted. “I think my role on the team is to do whatever is needed from me, from playing quarterback, receiver, corner and linebacker. My role is to be ready to play anything.”
With the 2024 season on the horizon, Jaxson has clear goals. “My goals for the 2024 season are to have an eight-win season and beat Eufaula.”
Reflecting on challenges, Jaxson acknowledges the tough losses. “The most challenging part of my career has probably been losing games we should have won. I overcome those challenges by remembering not everyone gets the opportunity to play football and to be thankful.” A memorable highlight for Jaxson from last season was the Sallisaw game. “It was the best game I have ever been a part of and winning that game has been the biggest moment of my career.”
Jaxson recognizes the crucial role of community support. “Community support is huge for the team. Without it, we would have very little funding and support to be a great football team.”
To younger athletes, Jaxson’s advice is straightforward: “Work hard and be patient.” Other than football, he also enjoys golfing. “My hobby outside of football is golf; I golf every day.”
Jaxson expressed gratitude to his support system. “I would like to thank God and my family. My playing football would have never happened without either of them.”
As for the future, Jaxson’s path is clear. “I do not plan to play college football. I want to go to NSU and study to become a physical therapist.”
