OFFENSE
Last year’s rookies enter the 2024 season as an experienced roster with a determined approach for turning last year’s misfortunes into victories. The Bulldogs offense welcomes the return of eight starters who are bigger, faster, stronger and better prepared to earn success. VYPE Top 100 nominee Teaguen Collins (6-2, 180, Jr.) who averaged 15.4 yards per reception while making 22 catches at wide receiver will move to quarterback to give the Bulldogs a variety of options in their spread offensive scheme. “Teaguen has the size, speed and athleticism to create multiple challenges for opposing defenses,” said second year head coach Logan Coatney. “His efforts also provide a leadership example of accountability that makes us a better team.” When the ‘Dogs go to the air, Jermauree Palmer (5-6, 145, Jr.) will be the go-to-receiver while Jacob Gregory (5-9, 160, Sr.) will make the best of his speed and field vision to pick up critical yards in the ground game. The offensive line will be capable of opening running lanes as well as provide pass protection anchored by a quartet of returning starters including Mark Gleason (6-2, 320, Sr.), Braxton Miller (5-10, 215, Jr.), Jonah Claborn (6-0, 220, Sr.), Alejandro Santacruz (5-10, 230, Jr.) and Tasker Colbert (6-0, 240, Jr.).
DEFENSE
The experience of eight returning starters allows Coatney and his staff to implement multiple defensive schemes in 2024. “Switching fronts and coverages keeps our opponents’ offense off balance,” said Coatney. “The experience in a variety of positions gives us those options.” Braxton Miller and Tasker Colbert have the size and strength to control the conflicts on the line of scrimmage and allow linebackers Jacob Gregory, Deshawn Wilson (5-6, 145, Jr.), and Devan Gibbs (5-8, 150, Sr.) to fly with force to the football. Teaguen Collins, who led the team in pass interceptions while making 34 tackles will patrol the secondary along with Jermauree Palmer, Gabe Miller (5-10, 160, Jr.) and Kade Scott (5-10, 150, Sr.) as Muldrow will chase a playoff spot while competing in a talented field of opponents in Class 3A-3 district competition. After the traditional season opener against Roland, the Bulldogs will play their next three contests on the road including the district opener at Eufaula.
“We’re much improved over last year,” said Coatney. “Now we have to continue our growth and improve on a day by day basis and take advantage of the opportunities.”
