At Keys High School, Abi Matthews stands out not only as a stellar athlete but also as a multifaceted student deeply involved in various activities.
Reflecting on her sources of motivation, Abi mentions her “friends and family” are what drive her to excel both on and off the soccer field.
Drawing inspiration from her parents, Abi highlights their involvement in her life: “My biggest role models are my parents. They come from different walks of life and have worked for what they want. They have taught me to always try my best no matter the circumstances.”
When it comes to influential teachers, Abi acknowledged the profound impact of Donelle Nolan. “The teacher who has impacted my life the most is Donelle Nolan. She has inspired me to love others and keep pursuing Christ.”
Recalling her most memorable moment in soccer, Abi reminisced on her junior year. “The highlight moment of my soccer career was scoring three goals in a row my junior year.”
Among her teammates, Abi finds camaraderie and strength in her bond with Taylor Petree. “She is one of my best friends and we started our soccer career together. I can always count on her to get a good laugh during a game or practice. And we have a special connection that helps out on the field.”
Beyond soccer, Abi is deeply involved in various school activities. “I am a part of the Speech and Debate team, student council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, NHS, yearbook, Mu Alpha Theta and I am the senior class president.”
Looking ahead, Abi plans to continue her academic journey at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. “My plans after high school are to attend Northeastern State University in Tahlequah Oklahoma and be a part of the President’s Leadership Class program.”
As she represents her school and community, Abi is mindful of the impact of her actions. “What it means for me to represent my school and community while I play is to not only perform well in my athletic ability, but also my character. The way I hold myself up and treat people has a great impact on my identity and my schools. I always try to seek the good and treat others with kindness.”
