ETHAN BLACKMON
On and off the basketball court, Ethan Blackmon likes to see people happy. And those who know him best agree that the 6-7 sophomore on the RiverHawks men’s basketball team strives to bring a smile to the face of others.
“I really enjoy talking to people. Ask anyone on our team, they’ll tell you that I’m always cracking jokes,” Blackmon said with confidence and a grin on his face. “Everyone needs someone they can talk to. I try to be open and straightforward, someone you can trust.”
In his second season with the RiverHawks, Blackmon continues to make an impact on the basketball court by leading the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association statistics by averaging 7.7 rebounds per game in addition to scoring 16 plus points per contest.
A native Texan and 2023 graduate from Lewisville High School, Blackmon likes the family environment as a student athlete at Northeastern State University.
“It’s a small campus where I always see familiar faces. When walking to class or around Tahlequah, it’s not uncommon to hear someone say hello, good game last night. I really enjoy the small town effect.”
Blackmon notes there’s a commitment to the NSU family that goes beyond his teammates and coaches that influences his every decision.
“I strive to live by the WE over me approach to get the job done right the first time.
With Coach Havens as well as my teammates, we hold ourselves accountable to help each other achieve a win, on the court and in everyday life.”
The physical education major also appreciates the involvement of his professors to create a bond beyond the classroom.
“My instructors will ask you if you need help, they make wanting to learn a reality. When they show up at our games, you can feel a sense of security and a commitment to helping students succeed.”
For Ethan Blackmon, the NSU experience is a “fit” and something that he believes is available to every student regardless of your pathway to arriving on campus.
“There’s a wide choice of clubs and organizations, fraternities or sororities as well as educational opportunities. And there is a support network, a family that will help you find happiness and success that will last a lifetime.”
