NSU’s Lexi Walls – “RiverHawk Nation” – Presented by Northeastern State University

LEXI WALLS

NSU

This coming school year Lexi Walls will complete her fifth and final year of playing on the soccer pitch for the Northeastern State RiverHawks in a career that has seen her play in all but one match over that time period. Lexi plays defensive midfield for the RiverHawks where she has been a part of a program on the rise and was named All-MIAA Honorable Mention last season for her efforts.

“NSU has been a really good fit for me because I felt really connected to coach (Chase) Wooten because he’s been so supportive. I love the campus because it’s not too big or too small and there’s a real hometown feel which I enjoy because I come from Jenks which is a really big school where I’d meet someone new every day. But here I feel like I get to know people and know the faculty a lot better. Some of my professors even come to my games and bring their kids and make signs for us and that’s a cool experience.”

Growing up Lexi admired soccer great Lionel Messi and Julie Ertz from the U.S. National Women’s Team.

“I like their character and the way they carry themselves on the field, especially Julie because she played the same position I do.”

Over her five years, Lexi has gained some valuable insight into managing her time.

“To be honest, I’ve struggled a bit with time management between athletics and academics, so my advice is to get your schoolwork done as soon as possible so you don’t have to worry about it after a busy weekend of athletics. The same goes for studying for a test. Study in spurts well ahead of the test so you don’t have to cram so much at the last minute.”

Lexi plans to graduate next spring with a major in general studies and minors in social science, human health performance and biology and would like to become a traveling anesthesiologist for animals.

For those considering college in the future, Lexi Walls says think about NSU.

“There’s so much to do here and they have great curriculums including the optometry school. I think NSU is on the rise and to me that’s exciting.”
