MADILYNN MOORE-HILLDALE
Sophomore Madilynn Moore of the Hilldale Hornets stays busy playing softball and basketball.
“I like playing softball best because I’ve played it longer and I play competitive softball.
She wears the number six in softball which was the number her dad wore when he played in high school and in basketball, she’s number 11 which is the number her great grandpa had when he played basketball. The Lady Hornets are having a winning season this year so far under new coach Levi Phillips and Madilynn says she’s enjoying playing for the new boss.
“Coach Phillips makes the game fun to play again. I know when I started playing high school basketball last year the move from middle school to high school was difficult because everyone was so much bigger and stronger and faster than me. It was easier in softball because I had been playing competitive softball since I was six and that helped me because I had already been playing with girls that knew what they were doing. I had a pretty good year in softball with several game saving catches,” said Moore who is member of the National Honor Society and carries a 4.2 grade point average.
Madilynn has played almost every softball position except catcher including second base and outfield which are the two spots she likes to play.
“I like playing those positions because it’s fun to play in the outfield and dive for a catch or to play second base and dive to catch a grounder or start a double play.”
Her goal in basketball this year was to become more confident in her shooting and ball handling and she’s pretty pleased with the way the season is going.
“I know there were some games that we lost that we really should have won but I think we’re starting to play more aggressively now.”
But as the basketball season starts winding down, Madilynn’s participation is on hold as she is sidelined for the year from a recent knee injury.
“It’s a bummer not being able to play right now but I’m hoping it’s not too serious and I can rehab through physical therapy and be back in action by softball season.”
In her spare time, Madilynn says she enjoys doing anything that involves being active.
