Every volleyball team develops its own personality, and Morgan Davis believes Westville’s greatest strength is the people who make up the program. The sophomore said the encouragement, trust and energy shared among her teammates are what make the Yellowjackets special.
That sense of connection starts long before the opening serve. Davis credits her parents as the biggest influence in her life, saying their support and encouragement have motivated her to work hard both in the classroom and on the court.
“My parents, because I want to be the best I can be for them,” Davis said. “They both give me opportunities and both push me hard to be the best I can be.”
The culture surrounding Westville volleyball is one of the biggest reasons she enjoys competing. Davis said the team’s ability to support one another through every situation has created an environment where everyone feels encouraged.
“What I enjoy most about being a part of the team is how we don’t hold grudges with others, and how we have energy and always hype up each other, win or lose,” she said.
That chemistry carries over onto the court. Davis has confidence in Westville’s setters, saying each brings different strengths depending on the situation.
“All of our setters are great,” she said. “They all have awesome strengths and work well in different situations.”
She also appreciates what her teammates bring beyond their volleyball skills. Davis pointed to Elly Vaughan’s relentless hustle on defense and said Kylesa Proctor keeps everyone laughing, helping maintain the positive atmosphere that has become a trademark of the team.
“Elly Vaughan is always on the floor getting almost everything up,” Davis said.
Playing volleyball has taught Davis lessons she expects to carry with her long after high school.
“To keep strong connections with your teammates and to never be the mean girl on the team,” she said.

Those lessons have shaped the kind of teammate she wants to be, emphasizing kindness, encouragement and treating others with respect while understanding that success comes from working together.
Like many players, Davis enjoys the challenge of competing in tough road environments. She said Tahlequah Sequoyah stands out because the size of the gym and crowd noise make communication much more difficult during matches.
“It’s big and the energy takes a lot to hear on the court,” she said.
Even in those moments, Davis believes Westville’s energy separates the Yellowjackets.
“How energetic and fun everyone is and how everyone lifts everyone up,” she said. “That’s what I love most about our team.”
Away from volleyball, Davis enjoys going thrifting and bedazzling different items, hobbies that allow her creativity to shine. On the court, she prefers using a standing serve because it gives her “a better visual and feel of the ball,” allowing her to play with confidence and consistency.
As Davis continues her high school career, she hopes to keep growing as both a player and a teammate. Supported by her family and surrounded by a group that values encouragement as much as competition, she continues to embrace every opportunity to improve while helping strengthen the culture that makes Westville volleyball special.
