Tahlequah’s Riley Dotson – Softball Spotlight – Presented by Tahlequah Family Vision

Riley Dotson, a multi-sport athlete at Tahlequah High School, is a dynamic force both on and off the field. “I am your average 16-year-old student athlete,” she said. “I work hard to excel in the classroom and on the field, court and track.” Her dedication to her academics and athletics, combined with her love for family and friends, showcases her well-rounded character.

Riley’s journey in softball began with her passion for multiple sports as a child. “After playing multiple sports growing up as a kid, I would say the love for the sport stuck with me more than all the others did.” Inspired by the camaraderie and challenge, Riley has found her niche in softball.

Team chemistry plays a significant role in her athletic experience. “I can always count on Amelia to walk over while I’m in the circle, make me smile, or laugh, giving me a minute to regroup.” This tight-knit bond is crucial as Riley steps into her multiple roles this season. “I have multiple roles this season, whether it is pitching, playing second or being lead-off. Then, off the field, being a role model that the younger girls can look up to.”

Riley’s goals for the season are ambitious yet attainable. “My goals and hopes for this season would be to go undefeated in districts, host a regional, and make it back to state. I think everyone should get to experience that atmosphere.”

Riley’s most memorable moment was “recording the final out to punch our ticket back to the state playoffs.”

Looking ahead, she sees herself “hopefully continuing my athletic career in softball or track, attending/graduating college while working on a degree in the medical field.”

Riley’s role models are her parents. “My parents are my biggest role models and are the people I look up to the most in my life.”

Riley advises younger players to “enjoy every moment and make it fun.” “Your high school years will fly by but it can also leave you with the best of friendships. Cherish every moment God gives you on this earth. Be grateful and make the most of every opportunity, and in whatever you do, do it with a purpose.”
