The Sequoyah Tahlequah boys golf team is building on steady improvement over the past few years as it heads into the 2026 season. With a strong core of returning players and talented freshmen ready to push for spots, the Indians aim to make a serious run at the state tournament as a team.
“Sequoyah golf has improved over the last few years and will look to continue that trend in 2026,” said coach Kaleb Harris. “We will have a majority of our team return from last year as well as add some talented young players to the fold.”
Returning starters include senior Lawson Morgan, juniors Hudson Hendricks and Kru Vance, who bring valuable experience and leadership to the squad. Freshmen such as Bryce Haddock, Tate Young, Edwin Wacoche, and Knox Keys also figure to compete for playing time and contribute immediately. “The returning starters will be Lawson Morgan (SR.), Hudson Hendricks (Jr.), Kru Vance (Jr.). Bryce Haddock (Fr.), Tate Young (Fr.), Edwin Wacoche (Fr.), Knox Keys (Fr.) will be some of the young talent that will be looking to add their name to the starting lineup for the season,” Harris said. “We are looking forward to the season and see what will unfold.”
The team’s ultimate goal this year is to qualify for the state tournament as a team, building on last season’s individual successes. “We want to be a qualifier for the state tournament as a team,” Harris said.
One of the key players to watch will be junior Hudson Hendricks, who had a standout sophomore campaign qualifying for the state tournament individually and earning several top ten finishes. “Hendricks will be a junior this season and looking to improve on a fantastic sophomore season in which he qualified for the state tournament as an individual,” Harris said. “Hudson had several top ten individual placements last season and is looking for a return to state and to ultimately help the team reach the state tournament this season.”
Another exciting young talent is freshman Bryce Haddock, who has shown promise during summer tournaments. “Bryce Haddock is a freshman this year,” Harris said. “Bryce is a talented player with the potential to have a breakout season. He has posted some good scores over the summer participating in US Kids and OJGA tournaments.”
Senior Lawson Morgan is the team’s lone senior and a key leader on and off the course. “Lawson is the lone senior for the boys golf program this year,” Harris said. “Lawson was a staple at five bag position last season as a first-year player. Lawson is a leader for the program as well as an excellent student in the classroom.”
