KEYS COUGARS

Coach: JUSTIN BROWN

3-7

OFFENSE

After three years as an assistant coach, Justin Brown steps into the head coaching job at Keys this year as the Cougars continue the job of turning the program back to winning ways. “We’ll be pretty young this year and we’ll need our upperclassmen to really step up and be great leaders for us,” said Brown. “We look forward to building on the improvements we made last year.” A lot of that success will be on the shoulders of wide receiver Treveon Guthrie (5-6, 150, Jr.) who tallied 683 yards last season with five touchdowns. “Treveon is one of the most intelligent and toughest players I’ve ever been around,” said Brown. “He stays levelheaded in pressure situations and is talented enough to play just about any skill position.” Some of the upperclassmen that Brown mentioned return to add some experience including wide receiver Nathan Rogers (5-11, 150, Sr.) who had 14 grabs last season along with solid line experience in Garrett Murphy (5-11, 295, Sr.), center Neamiah Begay (6-0, 240, Sr.) and Adden Shaw (6-0, 205, Sr.). Several players will take turns at running back including juniors Ryan Kirk and Jon Beckwith along with freshmen Garrett Lemastersand Raiden Beckwith. Sophomore Jeff Kimble, freshman Ryder Davis and Guthrie are all being looked at to take on the quarterbacking job this year out of the pistol formation. “Ryder will be a wide receiver if not the quarterback. He’s a good student and hard worker,” said Brown.

DEFENSE

Guthrie and Rogers return to lockdown the secondary this year for Keys. Shaw and Braxton Womack (5-10, 185, So.) will be the stoppers at linebackers and Brown cites a host of players that will rotate in the defensive line includingsophomores Benton Martin (6-0, 210), Heath Thomas (5-10, 230), Aden Boston, Quinton Martin, Cooper Sanders and juniors Ricky Sharrette and Gabe Gillenger. Another guy that Brown will count on is Danny Musgrove, that selfless guy that every team needs to have. “Danny is always willing to jump in and help where he sees a need and always gives his best effort.” Experience along the offensive line will be a key for the Cougars as the rest of the offense settles in and plays ball control to help a young defensive front
