Hulbert Riders Baseball Team – Presented by AAA Robbins Insurance Agency

The Hulbert Riders are playing a youthful but exciting brand of baseball this spring, and head coach Shane Bevan wouldn’t have it any other way. “We are growing up,” Bevan said. “Playing a lot of freshmen and sophomores who are maturing with each game. We are playing a fun brand of baseball and they are buying in.”

While the Riders are young, they’re being led by a steady and reliable senior in Ethan Thompson. “Ethan has grown into a leader and helping out the younger kids when asked to,” said Bevan. “Keeps a good attitude and just plays the next play.” Thompson recently signed to play college baseball at Fort Scott, and his presence both on and off the field has been a major factor in the team’s progress this season.

One underclassman who has stood out is freshman Weston Jenkins. Whether it’s on the mound or in the infield, Jenkins has proven to be a key contributor for the Riders. “Weston has really matured on the mound as a freshman,” Bevan said. “Also plays shortstop, third base and second base.”

The team’s approach to the game is simple, but it’s paying off. “Barrel the bat on offense and make the routine play on defense,” Bevan said. “Have team at-bats.” That team-first mentality has been crucial as the Riders navigate the ups and downs of a season filled with growing pains and breakthroughs.

As the season continues, Bevan is optimistic about the direction his team is heading. “They are buying in,” he said. With a mix of talented youth and strong leadership, Hulbert baseball is laying the foundation for success not just this season—but for years to come.

Coach Bevan and the Riders are embracing the process, staying focused on development, and playing for each other every inning. That mindset, combined with grit and growth, is turning this young squad into a team to watch.
