OUTLOOK

The Hulbert Riders enter the new season hungry to take a step forward under fifth-year head coach Hayden Hackworth, who continues shaping a culture built on toughness, work ethic, and player development. While the Riders return limited varsity experience, they feature a Top 100 senior, a rising underclassman with elite potential, and a group eager to elevate the program. With a renewed focus on pace, execution, and defensive pressure, the foundation is in place for meaningful improvement.

At the center of Hulbert’s offensive attack is senior point guard Cody Botts (5-11, Sr.), the team’s floor leader and most experienced playmaker. Coach Hackworth is clear about what Botts brings to this year’s squad. “Cody is a senior he averaged 11 points and 3 assists per game last season. Cody is a relentless competitor who thrives on attacking the rim. He also has the ability to pull up from 3. Cody is a great teammate and a hard worker. He leads on and off the court.” Botts’ combination of scoring, leadership, and pace makes him the engine of the Riders’ offense, and his ability to generate paint touches opens opportunities for the players around him.

Hulbert’s most intriguing young prospect is sophomore Jaden Wells, who will play a major role this season as he continues to mature physically and expand his skill set. Hackworth praised the young guard’s approach and natural ability. “Jaden has a relentless work ethic. He has an impressive handle and is a great finisher around the rim. He also has a deadly midrange game.” With his creativity off the dribble and ability to score at all three levels, Wells gives the Riders another dynamic guard capable of breaking down defenses.

The Riders may not be the deepest or most experienced team in their district, but they possess two backcourt playmakers who embody the competitive identity coach Hackworth values. Behind Botts’ steady leadership and Wells’ upside, Hulbert has the tools to push past last season’s growing pains and become a dangerous opponent by postseason time. With continued development and the relentless mindset Hackworth preaches, the Riders aim to turn potential into production and make meaningful strides in the 2025–26 campaign.
