ROLAND RANGERS
Coach: AUSTIN CANTRELL
1-9
OFFENSE
Some new faces, some rehabbed players and six returning starters highlight the outlook for the Roland Rangers in 2024. One of those returning is Dalton Crossno (6-0, 220, Sr.) who will move from the running back spot where he gained 800 yards last year to take over the quarterback spot for Roland this year. “Dalton is a well-rounded player who canplay multiple positions for us,” said coach Austin Cantrell. “At 220-pounds he’s big enough to hold his own as a blocker yet fast enough to make big plays on offense and knowledgeable enough to be able to make adjustments on the fly. He’s a player we can trust to get the job done and make big plays happen.” Returning for the Rangers after missing last season with a broken collarbone will be running back Mason Kemp (6-2, 185, Jr.) as well as the athletic Paul Johnson (5-9, 155, Jr.) who is new to the program this year. The offensive line is led by Joseph Stone (5-11, 240, Sr.) who Cantrell calls the hardest working guy on the team who never misses a workout and incoming freshman Jayden Fancher (6-3, 280) is also expected to have an impact. The wideout spots in the flexbone offense will be manned by Uriah Philips (6-0, 170, So.) and Asa Ulrich (6-3, 170, So.), a converted quarterback.
DEFENSE
The Rangers will possess good senior leadership on defense where they return seven starters in Cantrell’s 3-4 set with Stone and Lucas Younger anchoring the line while Crossno will be joined again at linebacker by Drew Simpson (5-10, 200, Jr.) and Nate Criswell (6-0, 195, Sr.) while Philips will again lockdown the secondary for Roland. “We want to make our opponent think before and after the snap with our alignments, coverage and stunts,” said Cantrell. The Rangers will be part of the new Class 2A-I division this year with a new set of district opponents other than Prague that include Okmulgee, Kingston, Kiefer, Hugo, Heavener, and Bethel.
