Baseball has always been a part of Hudson Burdick’s life. From the time he was a child, the game was in his blood. Now, as a senior at Poteau High School, he’s ready to take on a leadership role for his team. “I’ve always loved playing baseball. I started playing when I was just three years old,” he reflected. After years of playing the game, Burdick is more committed than ever to help his team succeed.
Burdick’s inspiration for baseball came from his father, who played the game at the collegiate level. “My inspiration for baseball came from my father. He played in college, and I desire to follow in his footsteps.” His dad’s influence has shaped his approach to the game, pushing him to work harder and strive for success.
This season, Burdick is helping build strong team chemistry. “The team’s chemistry this season has already been much improved. We’re learning to work more as a whole unit this year. Everybody has a role and knows that it’s important.” Burdick is a key part of this unity, playing a leadership role for his teammates.
As a senior, Burdick’s experience and knowledge make him a natural leader. “A role I’m going to fulfill this year is going to take charge in leading this program. I have loads of knowledge and experience.” He’s ready to lead by example and help guide the team toward victory.
Burdick’s ultimate goal is clear: “The end goal is to win a state championship. Some smaller goals would include winning the Leflore County Tournament and also changing the culture of the program.” His leadership and dedication are key to the team’s success.
Despite a challenging injury last year, Burdick remains motivated. “The most challenging part of my career has been when I tore my ACL my junior year in basketball. It was physically and mentally exhausting for me.” His determination to work harder after the setback will drive him as he aims to end his high school career on a high note.
Looking to the future, Burdick hopes to continue playing baseball at the next level while pursuing a degree in finance or physical therapy.
