Softball isn’t just a game for Riley Jerrell—it’s a lifelong passion, one that’s been with her since she could walk. “I am a senior at Pocola High School. I have been playing softball since I was three years old,” she recalls. “My dad got me into the game of softball, and I have been in love with it forever.” That early love for the game laid the foundation for a standout athletic career, shaped by her family’s support and her own hard work.
Riley’s inspiration to keep pushing came early. “What inspired me to play was that I started at a young age and kept going from there,” she shares. “My biggest influences are my parents. They have traveled all over the country for me to follow my dreams.” Their commitment to her journey is evident, as they’ve supported her through every challenge, helping her become the athlete she is today.
With four seniors leading the team, the bond between the players has only strengthened. “The team’s chemistry this year is amazing. With us having four seniors who are a huge part of the team, everyone gets along and is there for each other because we know this is the last time for our group to be together.” This strong team connection fuels their energy and drives them toward a common goal: winning big.
Riley takes pride in being a role model for the younger players. “My role is to be a leader for our younger girls. Just to be able to be there for them and be a positive role model.” Whether it’s offering guidance on or off the field, Riley knows the value of leading by example.
One of her standout moments came last season at state. “A memorable moment was when I had two home runs in the first round of state last season.” That achievement not only highlighted her talent but also the hard work she puts into her game.
Looking ahead, Riley is focused on both her athletic and academic future. “My plans after high school are to continue my academic and athletic career at Eastern Oklahoma State College.” Aiming for a career in physical therapy, Riley’s future is as bright as her past in softball.
