Locked In and Leading the Way at Pocola
For Pocola junior quarterback Jaseir Posey, improvement starts with vision—both literal and leadership. “I want to read through my progressions better and step up to be a leader,” Posey said. His growth as a playmaker on the field is just as important to him as becoming someone his teammates can rely on when the pressure mounts.
This offseason has looked different than in years past, and Posey is all in. “We’ve been working out in the weight room way harder than we have been,” he said. “And also, we’ve been going to throw and catch after workouts too.” That added effort, early mornings, and extra reps are the foundation for the team’s 2024 goals.
What’s been the biggest difference so far? “How we’ve gotten closer with one another and really bought in to the team,” Posey said. That brotherhood is building momentum and setting a tone that the Indians hope will carry them through the season and deep into the playoffs.
And make no mistake—there’s one target they’re chasing. “To win the gold ball,” Posey said, referring to the Oklahoma state championship trophy. “We’ve been preparing by waking up early and working out.” That dedication shows in every lift, every rep, and every 7-on-7 session they’ve logged this summer.
When he steps under center, Posey knows exactly what to look for. “The coverage the defense is in, and also the mismatches on the field,” he said. Preparation is part of his routine, and game day starts with a calm and focused mind. “I get a good stretch in and mentally lock in by listening to music.”
His approach is simple but effective: protect the ball and move the chains. “Make sure not to turn the ball over and keep the ball moving down the field,” he said.
Posey’s long-term goals are crystal clear. “I want to be remembered as one of the best football players to come through Pocola High School,” he said.
Jaseir Posey—6-foot junior, three-sport athlete—hopes football is only the beginning. “After high school, I would like to go play football at a university,” he said. And with his mindset, that future looks promising.
