Jazzlyn Harrison’s favorite place to play softball isn’t just any field — it’s the Hall of Fame stadium in Oklahoma City. “Hands down, it’s my favorite field to play on.” There’s something special about stepping onto that field, feeling the energy of a stadium that’s hosted some of the best in the game. It’s a fitting choice for Jazzlyn, a senior at Howe High School, who has spent the last five years making her own mark in the sport.
What makes being a student-athlete at Howe special for Jazzlyn goes beyond the field. “They make sure to put God first,” she said. This perspective has shaped her approach to the balance between sports and academics, keeping her grounded in her priorities. “I always try to keep this in my head — to be a student-athlete and not an athlete-student.”
As the center fielder, Jazzlyn loves her position. “I feel very comfortable doing my job out there, which gives me extreme confidence.” This confidence has played a key role in her success, and it’s no surprise that she’s one of the team’s standout leaders.
Jazzlyn credits her teammates for pushing her to be better every day. “A couple of my teammates that have impressed me have been Karley Duvall, Slatey Jo Free and Josie Peterson,” she said. “These teammates have put on a show and showed me how far they’ve come along.” Her respect for her teammates runs deep, and their shared bond has created a positive and energetic atmosphere. “One thing I love about my teammates is the energy that my team gives,” she said. “We are always on the same page. We try to keep in mind that we aren’t playing softball for us, we are playing for Him.”
When it comes to her plans after graduation, Jazzlyn has clear goals. “I will love to attend college and get a degree!” Beyond the softball diamond, her ambitions are set on continuing her education, while carrying with her the lessons and memories from her time at Howe.
