HEAVENER WOLVES
BOYS
Coach: Jody Clubb
23-24 Record: 13-13
The Heavener Wolves enter the 2024 season looking to build on last year’s balanced campaign. With a focus on quick, guard-heavy play and aggressive defense, head coach Jody Clubb is optimistic about the team’s potential. Returning two starters from last year, the Wolves will rely on a faster pace, improved three-point shooting, and a relentless defensive style to achieve success. “We will be quick and overall should shoot better from the three-point line than we did last year,” Clubb said. “Our team will play an aggressive style of defense and try to get up and down the floor.”
Senior Isaac Cook (5-10, Sr.) is a three-year starter and the centerpiece of the team’s efforts. Cook’s versatility is unmatched, as he can defend, rebound, handle the ball, and shoot with consistency. Cook, who holds a perfect 4.0 GPA, is expected to average 12.0-15.0 points per game this season and will provide leadership on and off the court. Joining Cook in the backcourt is senior Zaid Rodriguez (5-10, Sr.), a selfless and detail-oriented point guard who led the team in assists last year. Rodriguez’s ability to distribute the ball and maintain control of the offense will be a critical factor for the Wolves. Fellow senior Canyon Ford (5-10, Sr.) brings additional experience to the guard rotation and is poised for a productive season. In the frontcourt, the Wolves feature seniors Hagan Ritter (5-11, Sr.) and Fernando Villanueva (5-10, Sr.), who will provide physicality and grit on both ends of the floor. Sophomore Jake Crase (6-3, So.) adds size and athleticism to the roster, while freshman Ben West (6-0, Fr.) is a rising star with the ability to play multiple positions. West’s shooting, ball-handling, and post moves are well ahead of his years, and he is expected to contribute significant minutes this season.
The roster also includes seniors Rogelio Garcia (5-9, Sr.), Brandon Sanchez (5-10, Sr.), and Spencer Clubb (5-10, Sr.); sophomores Willy Dehart (6-0, So.) and Julian Sanchez (5-9, So.); and freshmen Garron Palmer (6-1, Fr.) and Kason Free (5-6, Fr.). This depth gives Heavener the flexibility to rotate players effectively, keeping their fast-paced strategy sustainable throughout games.
