Team chemistry is everything and according to Emma Walker, the Poteau High School softball team has come together in preparation for a tough schedule.
“The team’s chemistry, it’s awesome we always get along and are always there for each other, always picking each other up when mistakes are bad, and this team is always fun to be around on the field and outside of softball,” said Walker.
Setting personal goals for the season is something every player will do. For Walker, meeting those goals serves to help the team’s overall success.
“My goals and hopes for this season is that we just work together and try to succeed as much as we can even if we don’t just always plan to have fun and also playing to win. I hope that will make it far in the LCT even regionals, super regionals, I believe that we can, we just must keep working,” said Walker.
Her softball journey started at a young age.
“I started playing softball when I was young, my parents were always there supporting me of what I wanted to do. Just started playing and never stopped. My parents have always pushed me to do my best in everything I do. My dad he’s probably my biggest supporter he’s really inspired me to go do bigger things in life and never stop working for my goals,” said Walker.
Taking on more of a leadership role has come natural for Walker.
“My role for the team is just to be one of the team leaders. I always see it as if you start you are an example to others doesn’t matter if they’re on or off the field everyone has a role they must do,” said Walker.
One of the more challenging moments in her softball career, came in her first year of varsity softball.
“One of the most challenging things for me during my softball career was starting as a freshman. It was hard for me because I was still young. There is so much to learn, and so it was nerve-racking and of course I didn’t want to mess up. I wanted to do everything right, it just took me a while to get comfortable in the spot I was in, but after I did, I had so much fun with the girls,” said Walker.
Community support for the team is on the rise. Walker and her teammates appreciate seeing fans and parents in the stands.
“I think community support to the softball team is important just so it shows the girls and the coaches that we do have support behind us and there are people out there cheering us on. Even when negativity comes around, we will still do our best and it shows the coaches that they’re doing a good job with us and the community,” said Walker. “I would like to thank my parents, my grandparents, and my family. They have always had my back in everything been my biggest supporters. And loving me through it all.”
