“We will be young this year,” said Sallisaw girls head coach Sinue Rodriguez. “Combined we have 15 freshmen and sophomores so we have a rebuilding year. We do have three seniors that started last year. Bella Morales, returning striker, Alayna Donaldson, midfield, and Sol Alvarado, right back. This group is full of energy and ready to get better each and every day.”
At the center of that attack is Bella Morales, a proven finisher up top. “Four-year starter – She scored most of our goals last season,” Rodriguez said. “She reads the game well and can score when we need it the most, she is good with the ball at her feet and has good ball skills. Good teammate and will score several goals for us this season.”
Ava Donaldson gives the Lady Black Diamonds another dangerous option in the attack. “Sophomore – She started her freshman year and has matured a lot since then,” Rodriguez said. “Her speed and hunger to always finding the back of the net will help our team be successful this year.”
Mya Thomas anchors the back line with toughness and leadership. “Mya has turned herself into a great left back,” Rodriguez said. “Her fire to always wanting to do better is what makes her a great defender. She does not quit or back down from any challenge. She is a great leader, very humble and does whatever the team needs.”
Junior Emily Robbins provides another vital piece in the midfield and attack. “Emily is our team’s leader,” Rodriguez said. “She is not just vocal but will also show it on the field. Once she finds space, she will make you pay for it. She can use both feet which makes her a bit more dangerous. She works hard every day at practice. Great role model.”
With seniors Morales, Donaldson and Alvarado setting the tone alongside rising talents like Ava Donaldson, Thomas and Robbins, Rodriguez said the youth, energy and work ethic of this group give Sallisaw a promising foundation in a rebuilding but highly competitive season.
