OUTLOOK

Coming off a strong 22-8 season, the Howe Lady Lions enter the new year fueled by experience, depth, and a senior-driven roster that has already proven it belongs on the state stage. Head coach Chris Brown says the group has embraced the challenge head-on. “We have experience returning with a group of players who have their sights set on returning to the State Tournament and winning,” Brown said. “High expectations have been met with a great deal of work individually in the offseason. The biggest strength for this team will be our experience and depth.”

Leading the charge is senior guard Slatey Jo Free (5-6, Sr.), who averaged 14.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists. A three-time state tournament qualifier, Free has already surpassed the 1,000-point milestone and is determined to finish her career on top. She is joined by fellow senior standout Kadynce Delt (5-10, Sr.), who posted 12.4 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. The pair forms one of Class 2A’s most seasoned and productive duos.

Senior guard Josey Peterson (5-7, Sr.) adds another reliable scoring threat after averaging 8.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.4 assists last season, while senior forward Breanna Wann (5-11, Sr.) brings size and interior scoring with 6.9 points and 3.8 rebounds. Junior guard Brilee Scarberry (5-6, Jr.) rounds out the returning core with 4.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists, giving Howe a balanced lineup capable of scoring from all spots on the floor.

Coach Brown also highlighted key individuals outside the starting rotation who elevate the program’s culture and future. Grace Cockburn has earned recognition for her relentless work ethic. “Grace is a hard-working kid who has spent a great deal of time in the gym,” Brown said. “She is a great athlete and a team leader with the younger players.”

Charis Wright brings leadership beyond the stat sheet. “Charis is one of the spiritual leaders on our team,” Brown said. “She influences her whole team with her spirit.”

With proven seniors, depth across every position, and a unified vision, Howe is built for another postseason run — and their coach believes in their mission. “This group knows what they want,” Brown said. “They’re working to get back and finish the job.”
