Wetumka’s William Lewis – Basketball Spotlight

Some players dream big, but Wetumka sophomore William Lewis chases goals that say everything about his confidence and competitive fire. This season, he’s set his sights on a moment he can already visualize above the rim: “I want to get an in-game dunk,” he said. For him, that single play represents the work he’s been putting in and the level he expects to reach.

Team energy around him has been strong. “It’s been really good this year,” William said when describing the Warriors’ morale. Part of that comes from growth in their chemistry and consistency. “We have learned to play together as a team.” That ability to gel, trust, and move the ball has made Wetumka far more dangerous as the season unfolds.

Just like William’s individual goals, the team has its own championship mindset. “Go to state and I have been putting in work,” he said. That grinding mentality is matched by the confidence he has in their offensive firepower. “Our offense is a big threat.”

William’s versatility makes him valuable across the court. “I play guard and can play big man,” he said, a combination that allows him to adapt to whatever Wetumka needs. When reading the opposing defense, he keeps it simple and tactical. “I look for what they are in and to see what our matchups are.”

Pre-game routines matter, and William’s is all about mindset. “I turn my music on and focus on me and my team.” Once the ball goes up, his mentality is direct. “To get the win.”

When discussing legacy, William doesn’t hide from high expectations. “That I was the greatest player Wetumka has seen,” he said. And he believes the Warriors have big things ahead. “That we going to state.”

Music fuels him—“Any NBA YoungBoy songs”—and he already holds personal memories that motivate him, including one stellar performance: “That I had a 30-point game.”

William Lewis, a 6’0” sophomore, competes in football, basketball, and track. With no outside activities, he stays focused on the future. His goal is clear and ambitious: “I want to play Division 1 college basketball.”
