OFFENSE
The Outlaws are the defending state champs in Class B-2 after going undefeated, no easy task, in 2024. While they return just four starters on offense, they still have plenty of talent to make another run at a title this year. Leading that attack is quarterback Isaiah Drake (6-1, 195, Sr.), a two-time VYPE TOP 100 pick, who piled up an unbelievable 4472 yards of total offense last year with 63 touchdowns while completing nearly 70 percent of his pass attempts.
“We’ll run the spread offense again with more emphasis on passing this year and getting the ball out quickly to our athletes in space,” said coach Tristan Garringer. One of those athletes will be returning wide receiver Bryant Stites (5-10, 175, Sr.) who had 1818 yards in receptions last year with 24 TDs including 197 yards in the state title game. The Outlaws will miss the 1400 yards of rushing that Drake’s older brother Isaac had last year but Garringer is eyeing a replacement in freshman Jakory Bagby (6-0, 185). “He is smart and physical for his age and will instantly contribute to our success,” said Garringer. The biggest losses for the Outlaws are in the O-line where Noah Hare (5-11, 175, Jr.) has the most experience so replacing the hogs up front will be a key priority this summer.
DEFENSE
The same talent that shines on offense will anchor a stingy defense that recorded five shutouts and gave up an average of just 10 points a game last season. Stites will again be the lockdown guy at safety where he had 103 tackles and five interceptions last year. Isaiah Drake and Jonah Roberts (5-11, 195, Jr.) will run down opponents from the linebacker spots where they had a combined 125 tackles last year and Bagby will join them this season. Hare will be the main man in the defensive front where he put up 55 tackles and 12 sacks in 2024. “We’ll base out of a 3-3 gap control defense utilizing our speed and quickness to get our linebackers scraping downhill and our defensive ends staying aggressive,” said Garringer.
