Q&A with Weleetka’s Isaac Drake – Football Spotlight – Presented by Mabrey Bank

VYPE: What are your goals and hopes for the 2024 season?

Isaac Drake: I’m hoping to end this season with a ring.

VYPE: Can you tell us a little about yourself and how you got started in football? 

ID: I started playing football in first grade and have loved it ever since. 

VYPE: What inspired you to take up football, and who are your biggest influences?

ID: My dad because everyone always told me how good he was, and I guess I wanted to carry that on. 

VYPE: What is your specific role on the team, and how do you prepare for it?

ID: A big role I have on the team is being team captain, I just try to help and support the underclassmen. 

VYPE: How important is community support to the team, and in what ways does it impact your performance?

ID: Our towns support means a lot to us. We have a ton of fans anywhere we go, and the community comes together every week to have a team dinner for us. 

VYPE: Who do you look up to as a role model, both on and off the field?

ID: Someone I look up to would be one of my coaches, Tony Hawkins. We just dedicated our football field to him, and I don’t think anyone deserves it more than him. 

VYPE: Looking back, what are you most proud of in your football career at Weleetka High School?

ID: I’m most proud of getting in the Vype Top 100 three years in a row. 

VYPE: Is there anyone you’d like to thank for supporting you throughout your journey?

ID: My family and the community. 

VYPE: What are your plans after graduating from high school? 

ID: I would love to play football in college. After graduation, I plan on going to college and I hope to become a highway patrol. 

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher and how did they impact you?

ID: My math teacher Mr. Chad Polson because he always trying to find different ways to help people.
