Okmulgee’s Kayonna Proctor – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Mabrey Bank

When it comes to setting a tone for her future, Okmulgee High School freshman Kayonna Proctor already knows exactly who she wants to be on and off the court. “My personal goals are to become a more consistent leader on the floor, improve my efficiency on both ends, and make sure I’m doing whatever it takes to help my team win,” she says. As a 9th-grader standing 5’7″ and competing in basketball, softball, and track, Proctor is focused on growth and reliability. “I want to keep growing and become someone my teammates can depend on in big moments.”

That commitment shows in the way she talks about her team. According to Proctor, the Bulldogs’ energy continues to climb in the right direction. “Our team morale has been really strong. We’re communicating better, holding each other accountable, and pushing each other every day.” That improvement has translated into on-court chemistry, something she says has become one of Okmulgee’s biggest shifts this season. “We’re trusting each other more, moving the ball, and playing as a unit instead of individually. That’s made a huge difference.”

With that foundation, the Bulldogs are aligned on what matters most. “Our goals are to play harder than every opponent, stay disciplined defensively, and make a strong run this season,” Proctor explains. Their approach is built on work and detail. “We’re working towards that by focusing on fundamentals, staying locked in during practice, and pushing each other to stay consistent.”

Proctor’s own versatility mirrors the team’s biggest advantage. “Our biggest strength is our versatility. We have players who can score, defend, and rebound in multiple positions. When we are locked in, we are tough to match up with.” She embodies that flexibility herself, saying, “I mainly play point guard, shooting guard, and small forward. But I am comfortable switching depending on what the team needs.”

Her preparation is rooted in discipline. “I stay conditioned, stretch consistently, hydrate, and take care of my body. I also keep a steady warm-up routine, so my energy stays high throughout the game.” Mentally, she thrives on focus. “My mindset is to play with intensity and complete every possession. I remind myself to stay confident, have fun, and control what I can control.”

And as she looks ahead? “My plans after high school are to go to college for nursing and to play basketball.” A legacy built on leadership, heart, and impact—exactly as she intends.
