There’s a strong sense of optimism surrounding the 2024-25 basketball season for the Morris
Lady Eagles as they return three strong seniors to hopefully carry Morris to the winning side of
the ledger.
“The team’s attitude is positive, and mental toughness is a key factor in their ability to bounce
back from setbacks,” said coach Kelly Kindell.
Leading the charge for the Eagles is VYPE TOP 100 pick Alexis Schell (5-11, Sr.) who is
described as a hard worker with a strong work ethic. Fire Clark (5-10) is another talented senior
who can play almost any position and point guard Lilli Giddens (5-5. Sr.) who Kindell calls the
heartbeat of the team who has exceptional court awareness. Kindell also looks to a couple of
sophomores to step into starting roles this year in Asiah Barnett (5-9) who is strong in the paint
and can finish through contact while playing a strong defense and Taylor Phillips (5-6) who is a
defensive specialist. Depth will also be an important factor for the Lady Eagles and first off the
bench will be Abby Long (5-5, Sr.) who Kindell says plays a vital, often unsung, role in the
team’s success followed by Alli Guynes (5-4 Sr.) and Shelby Washington (5-6, Jr.). Also battling
for court time for Morris will be senior Rylee Whitaker, sophomores Kailyn Fixico and Kaylynn
Lukenbill and freshmen Amy Gehring and Katie Russell. With three of the five projected starters
5-9 or taller, the Lady Eagles should have a decided height advantage over many of their
opponents this year as well as the added experience of playing together last year.
“This team is very special in that they are proving they can overcome hurdles while moving in
the right direction and I expect us to have a better record than last year,” said Kindell.
