Morris High School’s Bo Rutledge – Basketball Spotlight – Presented by Muscogee Nation

When Morris freshman Bo Rutledge steps onto the court, there’s one thing on his mind — earning respect through hard work and consistency. “My personal goal this season is to have a winning year and to do my job as a point guard,” Bo said. “I don’t want to let my coach, teammates, or anyone who’s counting on me down.”

Despite being one of the youngest on the roster, Bo carries himself with focus and maturity beyond his years. His drive comes from wanting to prove that effort and determination can overcome anything.

That mentality has fueled a strong start for the Eagles, who are building momentum early in the season. “Our team morale has been high — we’re in great spirits and ready to dominate,” Bo said. “Everyone’s locked in and focused on having a winning season.”

The improvement is noticeable — not just in skill, but in attitude. “The biggest improvement has been our mindset,” Bo shared. “No matter if we’re up or down, we play with 110% effort and never let up.”

Bo’s leadership as a point guard, slasher, and shooting guard helps set the tone on both ends of the floor. “Our biggest strength right now is our communication and defense,” he said. “We’re talking, trusting each other, and staying locked in.”

When it comes to preparation, Bo takes every rep seriously. “I focus on my fundamentals, shot form, ball handling, and stretching to make sure my body’s loose and ready to go,” he said. “When I’m reading a defense, I look to see if they’re running zone or man, and whether the paint is open or packed in near the goal. I also study my defender’s top foot and hip movement — I use that to attack, change direction, and get to my spots.”

Looking ahead, Bo already knows the type of legacy he wants to leave behind. “I want my legacy to be about inspiring other kids to love the game the way I do,” he said. “To show them that you can shine and be great if you stay consistent and put in the hard work. Never let someone tell you that you can’t do it, and never give up.”

As a 5’9” freshman, Bo is already showing the heart and hunger of a player with big dreams — aiming for a college basketball scholarship and a future competing at the highest level.
