Dewar’s Korbyn Anderson – Athlete Spotlight

Dewar High School senior Korbyn Anderson understands that softball is as much a mental game as it is a physical one. Whether she is patrolling center field or stepping into the pitching circle, she has learned that confidence and resilience often make the difference between dwelling on mistakes and moving forward.

Those qualities have been shaped by the example set at home.

“My mom, she is always there for anyone and is one of the kindest people I know; she will drop anything to help you,” Anderson said.

Watching her mother put others first has influenced the way Anderson approaches her teammates and the game. She values being someone others can count on, a mindset that has helped define her role heading into her senior season.

Her versatility gives the Dragons flexibility on the field, but it also comes with unique challenges. Roaming center field means covering plenty of ground, while pitching demands emotional control as much as execution.

“The hardest thing about pitching is keeping a good attitude when you aren’t pitching the best,” Anderson said.

That experience has reinforced one of the biggest lessons softball has taught her.

“If you make a mistake, just learn from it and try your hardest in everything you do,” she said.

The same mindset carries into the batter’s box.

“My process at the plate is to take a breath and tell myself to just get on and not strike out,” Anderson said.

While Anderson enjoys competing, the relationships built through softball have become just as meaningful. She said some of her favorite memories come from the everyday moments spent laughing with teammates.

She admires Jaycie Berry’s hustle, pointing to her willingness to dive for ground balls, while Jadyn Ross keeps the team loose with her sense of humor. Anderson also credits former teammate Marti Yaerger for leaving a lasting impression through her leadership.

“She always kept the attitudes up and was one of the best leaders I’ve seen,” Anderson said. “She was always so kind to everyone she met.”

Away from softball, Anderson enjoys hunting, watching movies and spending time at Braum’s with friends. She is active in the Dewar First Baptist Youth group, enjoys math in school and still remembers kindergarten teacher Mrs. Snelson as an educator who made an early impact.

As she enters her final high school season, Anderson hopes to continue leading with resilience, selflessness and an appreciation for every moment she shares with her teammates.
