OFFENSE
After a slight hiccup in 2023, the Beggs Golden Demons continued their long string of playoff appearances in 2024, advancing to the Class 2A state quarterfinals before losing to eventual state finalist Vian. And they’ll be doing it under the guidance of new head coach David Shannon who has been the Beggs defensive coordinator for 10 years. Graduation has cost them a lot of offensive production, but the Golden Demons have shown an ability to find athletes that will step up and answer the call. At the top of the list this year is wide receiver and kick return specialist Jordan Wesley (5-9, 160, Sr.) who is a VYPE TOP 100 pick. A three-year starter, Wesley hauled in 19 passes for 433 yards and four touchdowns last year and his senior leadership will be needed to bring along a young team in 2025. Another senior that will help in that regard is Ethen Davison (6-0, 190) who will take over the quarterbacking duties this year. A couple of guys will share the running back duties for Beggs in Trey Ross (6-0, 185, Jr.) and Jason Nethon (6-0, 185, Jr.) who combined for 450 rushing yards in 2024. Down the field to haul in the long ball will be Wesley, Ross, if he’s not at running back, and Bobby Baker (5-9, 160, Sr.). Dawson Richardson (6-0, 260, Jr.) will be the lone holdover in the offensive line as the Golden Demons run from multiple sets with a good balance of pass and run.
DEFENSE
As with the offense, just three returning faces will be in the lineup in Beggs 4-2-5 defense led by Wesley at cornerback where he had 27 tackles and a pair of interceptions last season. Also in the secondary will be Baker at safety who notched 41 tackles and two INTs last year along with Ross at safety. Nethon will be back to make the stops at linebacker where he had 28 tackles and three tackles for loss and Mike Lewis (6-0, 210, Jr.) while Aiden Taylor (6-3, 215, Sr.) will bring size and experience back to the defensive line. Coaches are also high on incoming freshman Sterling Jordan (6-1, 170) who they call an exceptionally gifted athlete who has the ability to play quite a bit this year on both sides of the ball.
