Warner’s Memphis Swimmer – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Warner Eagle Pride

When Memphis Swimmer first stepped onto a football field, it wasn’t by choice—but it quickly became a passion. “What got me in the sport was my dad making me play when I was a little kid and I just fell in love with the game,” said the Warner High School sophomore. “I’m a right-handed quarterback, wide receiver and safety.”

Memphis sees sports as more than a game—it’s a gateway to his future. “What inspired me to play sports is having a way to college, and my drive just to win in everything I do,” he said. “My biggest influences are probably both of my parents and my sister.”

This coming fall, team chemistry is at an all-time high. “The team chemistry this year will be great, because most of these guys have been playing together since little league,” said Memphis.

As a leader, Memphis embraces the responsibilities that come with it. “I think my specific role on the team is to be a leader and a captain,” he said. “To help me prepare is just me stepping up in situations and my coaches and teammates also help me with being a leader.”

He’s also got his eyes on big goals this fall. “My goals mainly for this coming season is to have a winning record and beat some of the teams that we lost to last year and hopefully make it far in the playoffs.”

Balancing athletics with school and training requires structure. “During the school year, my schedule is wake up, go workout in the morning, go to class, then go to practice,” Memphis said. “During the summer, it’s wake up, get some food in my system, go workout, then go work on drills.”

Turning a program around takes grit. “The most challenging time that I had to go through was probably going from a losing program to becoming a winning program,” he said. “Overcoming that would just be staying positive through that whole process.”

His proudest accomplishment so far? “Becoming a winning program, and we are still trying to reach the top of whatever we are doing in any sport.”

Memphis also added, “I would like to thank my coaches for believing in me and just putting their trust in me through my journey.”
