After having what his coach called “a massive sophomore season”, Demariaun (Dee) Antwine is set to make his name better known as he enters the 2025 season. The two-way starter had 44 receptions for 700 yards and nine touchdowns as a wide receiver last year and about 50 tackles and a pair of interceptions at cornerback on defense for the Eagles. “Dee is an extraordinary kid with a great work ethic that head coaches desire, “said coach Cade Shearwood. “He’s a great route runner with good speed and hands and on defense became more physical as the year progressed. He had one of the better sophomore seasons I’ve seen and we’re looking for big things from him this year.” Growing up Demariaun says he was a basketball kid, but his dad saw something in him and urged (forced is the word Dee used, laughing) to try football “and once I got on the field, I started loving it.” He started a few games as a freshman but credits Shearwood, who took over the program last year, for bringing him along and getting him to focus more seriously on the game. “We went from being 3-7 to 7-3 last year and coach Shearwood gets the credit for that. I think he’s one of the best coaches in the state,” said Antwine who also plays basketball and was a state qualifier in track for Warner this past spring. He says there are a few people who help him stay focused in practice. “Derek Cole thinks he can guard me, and I have to show him up unless he trips because he can’t cover me,” Dee laughed. “Ethan Glover will yell at me if he knows I’m having an off day because he knows what I’m capable of and then there’s coach (Mike) Combs. Don’t get me started on him.” Demariaun is involved in FCA at Warner and will be in leadership this year and has set some pretty definitive goals for the upcoming season. “I’d like to have at least 20 touchdowns, 1500 all purpose yards, 900 receiving yards and make the playoffs again. On defense I’d like to have at least five interceptions and 30 tackles.”
