KAMBREE ELLIS-WARNER
Senior Kambree Ellis has seen a lot of success in athletics during her time at Warner High School. As a basketball player, she has been to the Big Dance. As a runner she has been to the state tournament in track and cross country. As a student she is near the top of her class, and this year, using examples set by those ahead of her, become a valuable team leader for the Lady Eagles basketball team.
“She makes such a difference for us on the court because she’s tall (6-0) and very athletic. She can score the ball inside and outside and does it all on defense,” said her coach, Mindi Peters. “She’s one of those kids that has worked hard while starting young in our Warner youth league and playing travel ball.”
Looking at her accomplishments in athletics, we’ll start with basketball.
“One of my best memories was in my freshman year. We were heavy underdogs to top-ranked Dale going into the final game in the area tournament, but we beat them and went on to the state tournament, and it was such a thrill especially starting as a freshman,” said Kambree.
Her cross-country team qualified for state last year and in track the team won regionals in the 400, 800, 4X200 and 4X400 relays and finished sixth at state in the 4X400. Kambree comes from a basketball-loving family including her sister Blake who was on a team that went to state and is one of her role models. Former teammates Harley Chesser and Alexis Fowler, who went on to play at Connors, were also positive influences in her life.
“I liked how Harley always gave her best even if she was struggling and Alexis was always positive and lifted us up. I think a good leader be positive, uplifting and motivating,” said Kambree who is National Honor Society and Warner’s leadership program. Her goals for this upcoming season include lifting her nearly nine points per game average to double figures and help her team get back to the state tournament. After high school, Kambree plans to get an associate’s degree at Connors, possibly playing basketball, and then go on an extended mission trip with her church.
