KAIL MOORE-WARNER
To say that Warner junior Kail Moore is a fiercely competitive guy would be an understatement. He not only wrestles for the Eagles but also plays football, runs track and in his spare time is into Ju Jitsu, mixed martial arts and kick boxing. But out of all of those, he likes wrestling best.
“I like wrestling over football because of the feeling I get after a tough match that I win knowing I was in better shape and had better technique than my opponent.”
With the loss of some key wrestlers to graduation, including Kail’s brother Sean, Eagles wrestling coach Tyson Hume is looking to the younger Moore to step up this year.
“With the loss of those seniors, Kail has stepped up to take the torch and carry on the tradition of the Warner Eagle way. I’ve been around the program for seven years, three as head coach, and every year I’ve watched Kail, improve so much. Last year he was 31-17 in duals and just missed qualifying for the state tournament.”
One of the big moments for Kail last year was placing fifth in the prestigious Paul Post tournament in Sallisaw which drew a lot of strong Class 3A and 4A teams as well as teams from Arkansas. He wrestled at 150 pounds last year but will be moving up this year due to some unforeseen circumstances.
“I suffered a hip injury during the offseason which kept me out of football this fall and about all I could do was eat and lift weights so I put on some weight and muscle and will probably wrestle at 175 this year,” said Moore.
Kail started wrestling early when his dad put him and Sean into the youth wrestling program in Warner at around four or five years old.
“I didn’t like it at first, but dad kept after me to stick with it and after three or four years, I fell in love with it,” said Kail.
Brother Sean also stuck with it, was a state qualifier for the Eagles last year, and now wrestles at Northern State. And over the years, the brothers have been pretty competitive on the mat.
“I used to have to practice with him and he’d beat me and I’d get mad and try to get him back and that made him mad and he’d put me on my head,” said Kail. “But after this summer Kail is bigger by 30 pounds and taller and so he’s about to even the score,” laughed coach Hume.
