WARNER EAGLES

Coach: CADE SHEARWOOD

3-7

OFFENSE

The Eagles are anxious to fly the nest and kickoff the 2024 campaign with a renewed sense of winning expectations as Cade Shearwood takes the whistle as head coach following a 3-year stint in the same position as Stigler.  The high energy of the Eagles mentor is without a doubt contagious where a cast of proven performers is joining forces with younger players to accept the coach’s the challenge. The Eagles have six starters returning to the offensive unit that will try to spin defender’s heads around while operating from the spread formation. VYPE Top 100 nominee and four-year starter Lubbock Drake (5-10, 185, Sr.) returns at running back where he averaged 5.2 yards per carry last year. Sevenother seniors return and Shearwood expects to gain from the veteran leadership of tight end Austin Spradlin (5-9, 225, Sr.) and wide receivers Colten Swimmer (5-10, 180, Sr.) and Sean Moore (5-10, 170, Sr.) as well as the size, strength and the will to win battles on the line of scrimmage from Andrew Brown (6-2, 275, Sr.) and John Brown (6-0, 275, Sr.) with added muscle from Jaiden Osborn (5-7, 180, Sr.) and Jaiden Shanks (5-10, 235, Sr.). The ground game will also employ the refuse to lose efforts from Logan Collins (5-10, 170, Jr.) and youthful energy of Isaac Mullins (5-8, 165, So.) as well as the big play potential at wide receiver from Demaurian Antwine (6-1, 170, So.). The Eagles will use the summer to determine who will get the starting quarterback duties as Shearwood and staff evaluate the progress Jaxon Cash (6-0, 155, Jr.) and Memphis Swimmer (5-11, 160, So.). “Jax (Cash) is a true leader as well as a quality athlete who enjoys his chance to compete,” said Shearwood.  “Memphis is a natural athlete with explosive feet and has the opportunity to be a game changer on the high school level.”

DEFENSE

Shearwood likes to use multiple fronts and come at the opponent with a mix of slants and blitz packages to create chaos from the Eagles 3-4 alignment. Lubbock Drake should flourish in the new system at linebacker where he totaled 121 tackles including eight stops for minus yardage last season. Joining the “speed rush” linebacker package will be Austin Spradlin, Sean Moore, Logan Collins, Isaac Mullins, and Jaiden Osborn to maintain continuous pressure on their opponents while Jaiden Shanks along with Andrew and John Brown anchor the defensive front on the line of scrimmage. Jaxon Cash will be the ringleader of the Eagles secondary unit at safety while Demaurian Antwine has the speed to match up as a one-on-one cover corner with Jaxon Cash and Memphis Swimmer making plays in the secondary. “It’s like putting together a big jigsaw puzzle to put all the pieces in the right spot,” said Shearwood. “The buy-in of playing winning football is evident in the efforts of the players so far and I’m confident from now until the season opener in September these kids will continue to work hard. It’s all about doing things right and getting better day by day.”
